When Mr. Wine Cutie and I wanted a low key winery with delicious wine, Darcie Kent Vineyards was recommended. Here’s our wine adventure!
As we turned into their vineyard, we can tell Darcie Kent was exactly what we were looking for. We parked and headed to the tasting room. The view was perfect, it was late in the afternoon and looking out from Darcie Kent, we could see the valley and the hills in the background.
When we reached the tasting room, we began to notice a theme. That theme is PURPLE!
Darcie Kent loves the color purple. From the trim, to the lawn chairs, there are splashes of purple in many different shades. What I loved the most about Darcie Kent was the laid back atmosphere.
They hold tastings both inside and outside. The outside tasting was mostly in shade, which was a nice break from our previous tastings in direct sunlight. Darcie Kent is both dog and family friendly. The outside was set up as a giant family picnic, with tables and umbrellas for shade, lawn chairs for relaxation and lawn games for entertainment.
The tasting room inside was a tad more formal. Not that it takes much to be more formal than a giant picnic… The tasting room also serve as an art gallery and the artist is the winemaker! So cool!! Darcie Kent’s artwork can be purchased right there in her tasting room.
However, if you can’t afford an original piece of art, don’t fret, her art is also on the labels of her wine bottles. There’s a different work of art on each varietal label.
Her landscape pieces were by far my favorite. I loved how she used different colors, specifically gold foil, which made this one particular landscape of a vineyard at sunset come to life for me. I found myself squinting as I would in an actual sunset.
I recommend to start your tasting outside, then make your way inside. You will not be disappointed by the wine or the art.
There are two different types of tastings you can choose at Darcie Kent. We chose the Tasting Flight, but they also offer a Guided Tasting that allows you to taste single vineyard and library wines. We will definitely try the Guided Tasting on our next visit.
My favorite wine was the Victories Rosé, made from malbec. This was so cool! It tasted like summer to me, watermelon out the wazoo! The rosé brought Mr. Wine Cutie back to his little league days, as he felt it tasted specifically like watermelon flavored Big League Chew (in a good way).
We really enjoyed Darcie Kent Vineyards. We loved the atmosphere and felt so relaxed, as if we were at a friends home for a picnic rather than at a commercial winery.
